I filmed and edited internal and external PR videos for the company as well as worked with the creative team on the creation of various materials. This internship allowed me to have great experiences and creative control in my work as I can plan and produce so many interviews and videos. It has also given me the opportunity to improve my skills with Adobe Creative Cloud applications such as Premiere Pro, After Effects, and InDesign.
Student Producer and Director City of Orange PEG Channels
Throughout my three and a half years at Chapman, I was student producer and director for the City of Orange PEG channels. This position allowed me to learn various technical aspects to a live program as I have to direct the City of Orange City Council and Planning Commission meetings for the viewers at home. I also coordinated teams to film various events in the city to be edited and replayed on the PEG channels as well as use Photoshop and Compix to keep the city bulletin up to date. This position has taught me so much and I thank my professor Pete Weitzner every day for giving me this opportunity as a freshman and allowing me to coordinate so many events as well as teach new student-employees.
I have been enrolled in Chapman News since my Spring 2015 semester and continue to be an active part of the class and live show. Chapman News is a weekly live broadcast and I am able to research, write, shoot, and edit news packages and readers for the show as well as learn various technical jobs each week. Through Chapman News, I have been able to hone my skills on sports, weather, and entertainment reporting as well as anchor and go out on live shots. It is also required that we stay up to date on current events for weekly class discussion and I have been able to do this daily as the Tip Line reporter for the Spring and Fall 2016 semesters. In today’s market, being a well-rounded Multi Media Journalist is important and I am happy to have gained so many relevant skills from Chapman News.
Inside OC with Rick Reiff Intern KOCE-TV PBS SoCal
From June to October 2016, I was given the opportunity to intern at Inside OC with Rick Reiff, a weekly show that is aired on PBS stations across the country. In this position, I was able to shadow the technical director and producer and have various positions within the show. Each week featured multiple studio guests from Orange County Supervisors, local developers, and even Presidential candidate Gary Johnson. Being a part of the small team that put this show together gave me many hands-on experiences and valuable skills.
Orange County Event Representative and Manager The Perfect Event, Inc.
I have been given the amazing opportunity to assist in the growth of the Orange County office of The Perfect Event’s collegiate events division since the beginning of 2015. As a representative, I contact and have meetings with various organizations at local colleges and universities as well as local venues in order to expand partnerships and grow the brand. I am also involved in the planning of many of these events which has allowed me to see all aspects that create it including location, budget, and security and transportation logistics. The Perfect Event is a wonderful company that I am proud to be a part of and they have recently allowed me to film and edit short videos for the company as well. They know that my passion lies in film and reporting and have been very supportive in all of my endeavors.
Politics Contributor and Writer The Bonafide Magazine
Television news is a very visual medium but writing is also a very important part of getting a story across. In order to improve my writing and incorporate my Political Science studies, I am writing for the online magazine, The Bonafide (the-bonafide.com). My focus is not only to improve my political reporting writing skills but to write articles that break down what many people don’t understand in local and national politics. There are so many questions that people leave unanswered because they feel as if they won’t be able to understand the full picture but my goal is to take those topics and do the research for the readers and break it down in an easy to understand way. I am doing so with The Bonafide and I hope to continue to do so in my reporting career.
KABC- TV General News Intern The Walt Disney Company
During the Fall 2015 semester, I was a General News Intern at KABC-TV, the Los Angeles local affiliate of ABC News. Each morning of my internship I was able to participate in the discussions and planning of the content and layout for the evening newscasts. I sat and shadowed every position within the studio including writers, reporters, and editors to witness the production of a live newscast from beginning to end. I assisted in time logging music from past shows and was able to spend a lot of time at the Assignment Desk where I answered calls and emails as well as research for stories. During this semester, I learned a tremendous amount every second as many local and national news stories unfolded including the San Bernardino shooting. Meeting and watching the reporters at ABC7 was also a great experience for me since I have admired them and their work since I was a little girl.
APTRA Reporting Academy 2014
At the 2014 APTRA Reporting Academy headed by broadcaster Hal Eisner, I was able to work in a team to make a package following a staged experience including public information officers, news conferences, and professional actors. This experience was amazing as I was given the opportunity to learn from reporters from various stations and markets for a hands-on experience. What I learned in those few days has stuck with me and I am very grateful for the experience.
